In Amsterdam the hostel price for a bed in a dormitary is fl.20 (about 10 US$). In comparison to Great Britain maybe cheap, in comparison to the rest of Europe maybe average priced. But in my eyes this is far too expensive, knowing as a local from Amsterdam that the cost of living (food, accomodation and others added together) should be between the fl.10 and fl.20 a day (low budget).
If you know that most backpackers survive of an amount of more then fl.30/day depending on the existing tourist industry, and you know the rate of living of guys like me, then you understand there is something wrong.
I am making my appartment available for backpackers who stay longer then three weeks in Amsterdam, so the cost of living will be only fl.20/day (or more depending on your way of living). For sure it will be cheaper then the hostels. I have to confess that I will make some profit out of this also. But in exchange for this I will help you get around in Amsterdam, help you look for a job (if possible) and things like that.
